Privacy Policy

Scope

TabVCR is a local Chrome-tab recorder. It does not provide an account, cloud-storage service, analytics service, advertising service, network service, or remote processing service.

Information TabVCR handles

TabVCR handles the following information only as needed to configure or perform a recording explicitly requested by the user:

Recorded website content: video and audio rendered by the selected Chrome tab. Depending on what the user records, this content may contain personal or sensitive information. TabVCR processes this content locally and writes it only to the output folder chosen by the user.
Page metadata and filenames: the current page title may be sanitized and combined with the local recording time and a short recording code to create an automatic output filename. A user may instead enter a custom filename. Automatic and custom filenames are created, processed, and stored locally. TabVCR checks the current tab address only to determine whether Chrome permits recording on that page type. It does not retain the address, domain, or a browsing-history list.
Video-player information: visible size, decoded dimensions, duration, playback position, and playing or ended state of accessible HTML5 video elements.
Window and display information: Chrome content-viewport size, Chrome-window bounds, available display bounds, and page zoom, used to create and later restore a 16:9 recording layout.
Output-folder access: a directory handle for the folder selected through Chrome's directory picker. TabVCR uses it to create recording files and avoid overwriting an existing file. It does not enumerate, upload, or analyze unrelated files.
Preferences: output format (WebM or MP4), recording resolution (720p or 1080p), window-sizing behavior, popup start delay, whether recorded tab audio is played through the system speakers, and whether completion notifications are enabled.
Notifications: if enabled by the user, TabVCR creates local completion, partial-recording, or failure notifications through Chrome and the operating system. Notification status remains local to the device, and the generic notification does not include the page title, filename, website, or error details.
Operational state: temporary per-recording identifiers, selected tab and frame identifiers, output filenames, recording phases, pre-recording countdown states, and per-window restoration information required to begin, complete, cancel, or safely stop one or more explicitly started recordings.

Use of information

TabVCR uses this information solely to record each user-selected tab, process its video and audio locally, write each recording to the selected folder in the chosen format and resolution, name the output files, apply the user's audio and window-sizing preferences, control accessible videos when possible, stop each recording when its video ends or the user stops that tab, restore each page and Chrome window, provide optional local completion notifications, and recover safely from browser service-worker suspension or recording errors.

If the user has selected a popup start delay in TabVCR's settings, TabVCR holds a temporary local countdown before beginning. No tab capture, output file creation, or video playback begins until the countdown expires. Cancelling the countdown clears that temporary state without starting the recording.

Storage and retention

Recordings are written directly to the folder selected by the user and remain there until the user deletes or moves them. The selected directory handle and the user's format, resolution, window-sizing, popup start-delay, audio, and notification preferences remain in the local Chrome profile until the user changes them, clears the extension's data, or uninstalls TabVCR. Custom filename input and temporary per-tab countdown, recording, and per-window restoration state are stored or processed only on the device and cleared when no longer needed, when a countdown is cancelled, or when the browser session ends.

TabVCR does not encrypt recording files. Their protection depends on the user's device, operating-system account, disk protection, and selected folder.

Transmission and sharing

TabVCR does not transmit tab content, audio, recordings, automatic or custom filenames, page titles, page addresses, video information, folder information, preferences, notification information, or operational state to the publisher or any third party. It contains no analytics, advertising, telemetry, trackers, network integration, cloud account, or cloud-storage service.

If the user selects a folder synchronized by another application or cloud-storage provider, that provider may upload files according to its own settings and privacy policy. TabVCR does not initiate or control that synchronization.

TabVCR does not sell user data, use it for advertising, use it for creditworthiness or lending, or make it available for human review by the publisher.

Browser and website services

Chrome and websites visited by the user operate independently from TabVCR and are governed by their own privacy policies. TabVCR does not access passwords, cookies, authentication tokens, form fields, microphone input, or webcam input.

User controls

Users can start each recording only through an explicit click or assigned keyboard shortcut in the current tab; start independent recordings in additional tabs or windows; choose or cancel a popup start delay before capture begins; return to a source tab to stop only that recording and retain its usable recorded portion; view the current profile's actual shortcut assignment in TabVCR's options and open Chrome's shortcut settings when no key is assigned; choose an automatic or custom filename; select the output format, resolution, window-sizing, audio-monitoring, and notification preferences; select or replace the output folder; delete recordings through the operating system; clear TabVCR's extension data; or disable and uninstall TabVCR through Chrome.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

TabVCR's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. All user-data handling is limited to the disclosed tab-recording purpose. TabVCR does not transfer user data for unrelated purposes, personalized advertising, data brokerage, creditworthiness, or lending.

Changes

This policy may be updated if TabVCR's functionality or legal obligations change. The effective date identifies the current version. Material changes to data handling will be disclosed before the changed practice takes effect.
