Most screen recorders want an account, a subscription, and a copy of your video on their servers. TabVCR is the opposite: it has no servers, no network access, and no idea who you are.
No account, no cloud
There is nothing to sign up for and nowhere to upload. Every recording is written directly to a folder you choose, while it records.
No tracking, no analytics
Zero telemetry, ads, or trackers. TabVCR requests no network access at all — the code physically can't phone home.
Minimal permissions
No microphone, no webcam, no access to every site. It touches only the tab you point it at, when you press record.

Cue the video
Open the page and pause the video where the recording should begin.
Hit the shortcut
One keystroke — or click TabVCR to name the file first. A short countdown lets you move the pointer away.
It takes over
The video fills the tab on a clean black layer, playback starts, and recording begins. Bury the window behind other apps — the recording doesn't care.
Done when it's done
TabVCR stops itself when the video ends, finishes the file in your folder, and puts the page back exactly as it found it.

Exact 720p or 1080p
Recordings are exactly 1280×720 or 1920×1080 at up to 30 fps — 5 Mbps at 720p, 8 Mbps at 1080p, with 160 Kbps audio.
WebM or MP4
WebM (VP8/Opus) by default for the best A/V sync, with native MP4 (H.264/AAC) available as an experimental option.
Tab audio, even muted
Capture the tab's sound in the file while keeping your speakers silent. Record at midnight; wake no one.
Record several tabs at once
Each tab gets its own countdown, badge, recording, and stop control. Run them in parallel across windows.
Written as it records

Honest limits
We'd rather tell you now than let a recording tell you later.
- TabVCR does not bypass content protection.
- Concurrency depends on your hardware. Our lab Mac sustained four simultaneous 720p recordings; your machine may do more or less. We publish measured results, not promises.
- 1080p can't invent detail. Output resolution can't add sharpness the source never had.
